Kennard Jones is a former professional baseball outfielder, born on September 8, 1981, in Cleveland, Ohio. He was selected by the San Diego Padres in the third round of the 2002 MLB June Amateur Draft out of Indiana University after an exceptional junior season being nominated for Big 10 player of the year and first team all conference. Throughout his minor league career, he played for several Padres affiliates, including the Eugene Emeralds (Short-Season A), Lake Elsinore Storm (Advanced A), Mobile BayBears (Double-A), and Portland Beavers (Triple AAA). Jones’ on-field strengths included a disciplined plate approach, reliable on-base ability, notable speed on the basepaths, and defensive prowess in the outfield. He also benefited from the mentorship of Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn, whose insights helped refine Jones’ hitting mechanics and mental approach to the game. After transitioning from his professional playing career, Jones turned to coaching and player development, working extensively with youth, high school, and college athletes to sharpen their offensive skill sets. Today, he leads Diamond Gear Baseball Academy as a hitting pro.
